1. What We Collect

When you post a listing, we collect: the title, category, description, price, your ZIP code (used to look up an approximate city/state/coordinates), and the phone number you provide. When you use "Use my location," your browser's geolocation is used only to sort listings by distance and is not stored on our server.

2. How We Use It

We use listing data to run the marketplace: displaying listings, sorting by distance/category, and letting interested buyers text you directly. We log posting IP addresses briefly to enforce a rate limit against spam; this log is not shown publicly.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

BuildSwap stores a small piece of data in your browser's local storage — a private token that lets your browser recognize which listings are yours, so you can mark them claimed or remove them. This token is not sent to any other site and isn't used for tracking or advertising. We don't use advertising cookies, and our traffic analytics (below) don't use cookies either.

4. Third-Party Services

BuildSwap runs on Supabase (database) and Vercel (hosting), and uses the free Zippopotam.us API to convert ZIP codes into an approximate city, state, and coordinates. We use Vercel's Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic patterns (like page views and general location by country) — it's cookie-free and doesn't build a personal profile of individual visitors. These providers process data on our behalf to operate the Site.

5. Data Retention

Listings stay live until you remove them yourself, or until we remove them (for violating our Terms or by your request).

6. Your Rights

You can remove your own listing at any time directly from the Site using the "Remove" button on your post. Listings are also removed automatically after a period of time (see the Site for current details). If you can't access the Site to remove a listing, or want to report someone else's listing, email us (see Contact below).

7. Children's Privacy

BuildSwap is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Site changes. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
